How to talk to your patients about co-payments [Guide]

On 21 June 2018, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced amendments to the Medical Schemes Act. One such amendment, which will affect your practice directly if approved, is the abolition of patient co-payments (Click here to read full story).

Although the abolishment of co-payments may very soon be a reality, the amendment has not yet taken effect, and with co-payments in the media spotlight, more patients will be questioning their responsibility to pay their co-payment portion.

What can you do as a medical practice?

Offering clear, basic information to a patient to explain co-payments can be an opportunity to both strengthen your relationship with your patients, as well as increase the likelihood of prompt or immediate settlement.
